How Much Does Water Heater Replacement Cost in Long Beach?

If you’re replacing a tank water heater in Long Beach, our Reliable Tank Replacement starts at $2,195, including tax. That starting price applies to a straightforward installation where the existing setup allows suitable components to be retained.

The final price depends on your home and the work needed. Permit costs are additional unless included in your written estimate. We confirm the installation scope and your complete flat-rate price before work begins.

The biggest question is often what needs to be replaced along with the water heater. Here’s how that affects your options.

What does a straightforward replacement look like?

On a recent project, the homeowner chose our Reliable option to replace an old 40-gallon water heater with a new Bradford White 40-gallon tank.

The heater was in the garage, with easy access for removal and installation. The work included the new water heater, two water flex lines, a gas flex line, and a gas sediment trap.

Several existing components could stay. The water and gas shutoff valves, earthquake straps, and blocking were already installed correctly and remained appropriate for the installation. The existing stand also remained suitable, so we retained it.

This job did not include an expansion tank, a replacement gas shutoff valve, or new earthquake straps. It’s an example of where the Reliable option can fit: a straightforward replacement with appropriate existing components that can be reused.

Why might another home cost more?

Two homes can need the same size water heater and still need different installation work.

An accessible garage installation is different from a heater that must be moved through a tight interior space or down from an attic. Existing piping, venting, valves, supports, and other components also affect the scope.

Some components can remain. Others may need replacement or modification to meet the installation’s requirements. We explain that work and include it in your estimate rather than assuming the starting price fits every home.

If something concealed is discovered after removal, we explain what we found and provide pricing for approval before completing work outside the agreed scope.

How do the three tank installation options compare?

Our published tank options are:

  • Reliable Tank Replacement: starting at $2,195.

  • Recommended Tank Installation: $2,875 for the listed package scope.

  • Long-Term Tank Investment: $3,425 for the listed package scope.

Tax is included. These packages cover standard 30-, 40-, or 50-gallon installations with normal access. Larger tanks and work outside the selected scope require separate pricing.

Reliable emphasizes retaining suitable existing components. Recommended includes more component replacements and system improvements. Long-Term adds warranty and maintenance benefits to the Recommended scope.

The right option depends on what your installation needs and which additional benefits you want. You can see the full inclusions and conditions on our installation pricing page: https://www.thewaterheaterguy.co/water-heater-installation-pricing

Recommended Water Heater Installation

Illustration for reference only. This diagram shows a representative water heater installation and components associated with our Recommended package. Every home is different: some existing components may be suitable for reuse, while other installations may require additional work or a different arrangement. We confirm the appropriate setup during an on-site assessment, following the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable local requirements.

Are permits included?

Permit costs are additional unless your written estimate includes them. For residential water heater replacement in Long Beach, the city requires a plumbing permit before replacement begins.

We explain the permit-related charges before proceeding. Required installation updates can also affect the scope; the permit charge and the work needed for the installation are separate parts of the estimate.

What if I have a tankless water heater?

Tank-for-tank replacement, tankless-for-tankless replacement, and tank-to-tankless conversion are different jobs. Their prices should be compared within the appropriate installation type.

This article focuses on replacing a tank water heater. If you’re replacing an existing tankless unit or considering a conversion, review our separate tankless installation pricing:

Schedule an in-person assessment

To confirm the right installation scope, we need to see your water heater and its surrounding setup in person. Photos can be helpful for an initial conversation, but they do not replace an on-site assessment.

I look beyond whether earthquake straps are present. I check their condition, how they are attached, and the backing or blocking behind the heater where needed. Straps that look secure in a photo may not tell us whether the installation is properly supported and anchored to the building’s framing.

During the visit, we assess which components can remain, which need attention, and what work belongs in your estimate. We explain your options and confirm the complete flat-rate price for the agreed scope before work begins.
